This year is definitely coming to an end on a very exciting and terrifying note!  I have finally left my full-time job to pursue my dreams.  Ashleigh, my wife, has been a tremendous support in all of this and I can never thank her enough for continuing to encourage me on this journey.  I would also like to thank all the clients, friends and colleagues that have made this possible.  Ya’ll will never know how much of a blessing you are, even though you sometimes feel like a curse .

Their website didn’t sell me on what I was looking for!

How do we fix this problem for our own companies?  How do we get into the mind of potential customers?  Surveys?  Industry statistics?  It is hard to tell what specific answer will work best, but we need to adapt when we notice an issue.  When an oversight is noticed, we need to act quickly to fix the issue.

Google Place Pages are an easy way to gain greater exposure for your business!

Does your business have a Google Place Page?

If you are not sure if your business has a place page or you want to claim one that is already setup for your business you can do so at Google Places

Showing up at the top!!

Like regular Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for your website, simple steps can be taken to help your page rank higher in search results.  According to Google, the rankings for Google Place pages are primarily determined by three factors:

1. Relevance – How well does the place match the term/terms that were searched.
2. Distance - How far the business is from the location of the person that performed the search.
3. Prominence - How prominent is the listing throughout the web (links, presence in articles, directories, etc.)

What can you do?

You know the three primary factors, what do you do now? There is little that can be done to affect the 2nd factor (unless you want to open a new office). Luckily, a little work with the other two factors can fix a location issue in no time.

Be intentional with your chosen categories and business description
You can become more “relevant” if the terms used in your description and chosen as your categories are the same as what your potential clients are searching.

Be active online and in your community
Having social media pages (facebook, twitter, etc.) can increase the links and traffic to your site, thus increasing your site’s prominence. Also, the more active you are, online and in your community, the more others will talk about you and link to your site.
